During this initial interaction, information is gathered about a client’s needs, the type of items to be appraised, deadlines, and the intended use of the appraisal. A letter of engagement is always sent to a potential client estimating the cost and time involved in the project and outlining the process. Depending on the size of the assignment, a more formal contract may be sent for a client’s signature before any work begins.
